Tuesday is the Read-a-thon! To sign up to help the class, follow the link: Don't forget to send your child in wearing their pre-approved costume! You may also send your student in with a pillow and blanket for independent reading time and a flashlight for reading in the dark! Also, Friday is a half day! Language Arts : With literature day on Tuesday, we are sure to have a memorable week! On top of that, we will be studying Roman myths and analyzing the characters therein, studying a piece of art they inspired, and uncovering the rising and falling actions that make them interesting. There will only be 15 spelling words this week to accommodate the Literature day festivities. Furthermore, the students will begin drafting their personal narrative! Language Arts : We will be picking up our Spalding spelling again this week and there will be a test on Friday. For literature, writing, and grammar we will be taking a three pronged approach to the personal narrative and short story. As we begin to study the art of the story, we will start writing our own personal narrative in class. I am excited to see their creativity and hear their insights about all the stories we read. Math: Long division sure has given us a run for our money! We will continue to practice those skills, alongside of multiplication, on Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be a test on Units 1-3 on Thursday. Then, we begin a new unit just on the math facts of 6-9. We will be using those new facts to multiply and divide all the while. Science : This week we will continue our study on the human body.  There will be a short quiz on Tuesday to review cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems.  We will be discussing the muscular system and making a fun booklet

Language Arts : The end of Quarter 1 is truly a feather in the cap of our 3rd graders! They have learned so much in Language Arts and should be proud of all the skills they have gained. We will study 30 words per usual this week end complete the week with a spelling test on Friday. As our final writing assignment of the quarter, the class will be working on a formal descriptive paragraph and we will go through the entire writing process, from brainstorming to the final draft.  We will wrap up our reading of Pinocchio by Wednesday and begin a Virtue project surrounding the book. The students will make a paper puppet in class and assign a virtue to each part of the puppet to explain how they “embody” the virtues. This project will mostly be completed on Friday as we celebrate the story together. Math: We will be learning to multiply multiple digit numbers by 2, 3, 4, and 5 this week (ex. 6752x3).
