We will be sending out the correct link via email today! *** Language Arts : We will continue reading the Trumpet of the Swan this week, deepen our understanding of prepositions, and complete our Informative piece on the Titanic.   Father William by Lewis Carroll should be memorized for recitations in Feb.7th. Math: We will wrap up our fractions unit this week with lessons on fractions on a numberline, fractions of a set, and fractions of money!  The assessment on Friday will include all of the skills learned this week, as well as adding and subtracting fractions.    Science : This week we will begin our unit on light!  This will include learning the main source if light here on Earth (the sun!), experimenting with shadows, and discussing different properties of light.   History: We will begin with our Earliest Americans unit this week! We will look at how the ancient peoples found it possible to migrate us
Athletic Field Day Athletic Field Day is Friday, February 2nd from 8:30-11:00 for K-2 classes and from 12:00-2:30 for grades 3-5!  Each year classes are assigned a Greek City State for their team.  This year, your child’s team is Athens, and our team color is red. Your child may wear a plain red shirt (no logos) with their uniform bottoms: pants or skirt.  There will be no school lunch offered on Athletic Field Day.  Please send your child to school with a lunch. Help our classroom win the “Royalty for a Day” contest! I am sure you’ve heard from your child by now that there is a “Royalty for a Day” contest underway, and your help is needed!  We still need $22,000 in tax credits to meet our $75,000 goal and here is how your child’s class wins, and what they will receive: The classroom that brings in the most Tax Credit dollars by Great Hearts Day (2/14/18) will be Royalty for a day! The teachers will be crowned royalty and receive gift cards. The class will wear spirit shirts and receive a treat on the royal day to celebrate. Language Arts : We will continue reading the Trumpet of the Swan this week, learn about prepositions and begin an informative essay on the Titanic..The recitation for The Adventures of Isabel will be on Jan. 24th and the students will receive their new poem, Father William by Lewis Carroll. Math: We will be continuing our fractions unit this week!  We will continue comparing and ordering fractions and learn about whole numbers as fractions.  There will be a quiz on Thursday and then on Friday we will start adding and subtracting fractions.   Science : We will wrap up our sound unit this week by learning echolocation, audiologists, and Alexander Graham Bell.  The study guide will come home Tuesday and the quiz will be Friday! . History: We will continue with our Vikings unit this week. We will look at the famous Vikings Eric the Red and Leif Ericson! We will also be making our own Viking name! Watch for a study guide coming home on Monday. The test will be on Frida

Language Arts : We will continue reading the Trumpet of the Swan this week, work on a informative essay in three paragraphs and review grammar concepts. Our spelling words will be condensed into 15 words a day with the test on Friday. Furthermore, the scholars should be studying “Adventures of Isabel” by Ogden Nash. The recitations will be on Jan. 24th. Math: We will start the quarter with a quick 2-day mini unit on probability.  Then we will begin our unit on fractions!  This unit will begin with naming fractions and comparing fractions with like denominators and fractions with like numerators.   Science : We will continue our unit on sound this week with two days of fun sound activities to explore pitch! We will end the week with a reading to review what we learned during our activities this week. History: We will continue with our Vikings unit this week. We will look at the Vikings as farmers, merchants, and traders. We will also be looking at the Viking’s longhous

Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful break and got to spend quality time with your family! ***Please bring Trumpet of the Swan this week*** Language Arts : We will begin reading The Trumpet of the Swan this week so please make sure that your child has a copy as soon as possible. In grammar we will learn how to diagram questions and review the diagramming of all four sentence types. In writing, we will be encountering a new genre --explanatory writing. Spelling will be normal with a test on Friday as usual. Furthermore, the class will begin memorizing “Adventures of Isabel” by Ogden Nash. The recitations will be on Jan. 24th.
