2/25-3/1

Language Arts It will be business as usual with spelling this week, with ten words a day and the test on Friday. We will continue The Little Prince, and work on memorizing Dream Variations by Langston Hughes. For writing we will continue to practice Opinion Writing. Math We begin working on Area this week! Please remember to work on multiplication facts regularly at home. Students will learn about the role of the sun, types of consumers, and food chains. History We will start our Spanish Explorers unit this week. We will learn about Ponce de Leon, Christopher Columbus and Hernando De Soto.

2/19-2/22

Language Arts We will read The Little Prince this week. Because it is a short week, we will forgo spelling in favor of our new writing unit in Opinion Writing. This should be a fun skill for the kids to learn. Math We will review and then take a cumulative test on Thursday.   Science This week students will learn about the human eye. History We will finish our Earliest Americans unit this week. On Tuesday, the students will bring home a study guide and their Earliest Americans packet to help fill it out. There will be a review on Thursday and the test will be Friday.

2/11-2/15

Language Arts We will begin The Little Prince this week. There will be a spelling test on Friday. Writing and grammar will focus on preparing a informational essay from brainstorming to publishing. We will read the content material Monday, and then complete the whole writing process on Tuesday. Math We will be working with time this week and take a quiz Tuesday. Science Students will continue learning about light and color and will fill in their study guide. There will be an assessment on Friday. History We will continue our Earliest Americans unit. We will learn about the Apache and Cherokee people. We will begin to learn about the Iroquois and Mahican people as well.

2/4-2/7

Language Arts We will continue and finish The Trumpet of the Swan this week. Spelling will be atypical, with a test on Thursday. Writing and grammar will focus on prepositions and we will type our essay on the Titanic. We will continue to work with prepositions and memorize the list together. The preposition test is Thursday. Students will review their stanzas to memorize Father William. The recitations will be on Wednesday. Math We begin working with time this week! Make your kids tell the time for you frequently as this is an important skill! Science This week we will continue learning about light and how it travels. History We will continue our Earliest Americans unit. We will learn about the Anasazi, the Mound Builders, and the Hopi and Navajo people.
