Picture day is this week on Thursday, the 14th so make sure you come to school looking your best!

Please mark your calendars for Wednesday, the 20th from 6:00-7:00. That evening we will be holding Math and Phonics night. We will be here to show you to how to help your child at home with homework and new concepts in the areas of language arts and math!

Language Arts:
Students should continue to memorize “The Crocodile” as the recitation is on Wednesday the 13th. We will read chapters 24-27 of Pinocchio and begin an opinion essay about the book which will result in an assessment score for both Literature and Writing. In grammar, will learn about the four types of sentences, proper nouns, and paragraph editing.

Math:
In math, we will review subtraction and learn how to borrow from 3 place values. The Wednesday math groups will serve as a review and there will be a quiz afterwards. After Wednesday, we will work on two-part word problems and quiz over them on Friday after a review practice session. Looking forward there will be a Unit 2 test over addition and subtraction (involving word problems) on Tuesday the 19th.

Science:
This week we will continue learning about the life cycle of amphibians as well as working on persuasive writing to choose the best class (mammals, reptiles, etc). There will be a quiz Friday over amphibians.

History:
This week in history we are going to begin learning about Canada! We will learn about the different provinces, the culture, and history of Canada! The students will be bringing home a paper explaining the Canada project that will be due September 25th.

Miss Brennan will be out for jury duty for the next couple of weeks, except for Fridays. Miss Sipel will take over the majority of instructional duties and a sub will come in to help with other duties. We may be asking for parent volunteers to come in and help with some of the extra needs around the classroom. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding!
